Post Over write parts data base
What is the best way to over write the parts data base. I exported the data base into excel, made modifications, saved in .csv format. Now I want to import the modified database back into CE. I want the new data base to completely write over the exisitng data base.

What is the best way to do this?

First, I would recommend backing up your current database... just in case something goes wrong :)

After you have made all of your edits to the CSV file, you should be able to import that file back into the program using the Part Import Wizard. In Step 1 be sure to specify the third option: "Overwrite all part data for duplicates and add new parts to database".

Keep in mind that the software uses the "Supplier Code" value for identifying individual parts. So when you create new custom parts it is importantt to define a unique Supplier code if you plan to utilize the Export/Import procedure.

Post Re: Over write parts data base
Hi Nolan,
I actually exported the data from CE in .mdb and made the mods, not the csv format. Now I am stuck. I can't figure out how to import in CE in that format. Is it possible to do it this way (I hope, as I spent alot of time)

I also tried to import the .mdb into excel and can't do the complete data base, on a single module at a time.

Please help.
Thanks,
Howie

The only format the Part Import Wizard will accept is CSV, and it must be structured exactly as what the Part Export Wizard produces.

It sounds like you have some experience with MS Access. If that's so you could work directly in the Access Database "back end", but I would advise you to make a back up of the file before you start in case you accidentally do irreversible damage.

If you've already begun working on an external MDB (Access) format you should be able to export or copy/paste into Excel and then create a properly formatted CSV file.

Hi Nolan,
Thankls for the help. I exported the parts data base in.csv format. Manipulatited it. I had to manually delete the parts in CE by selecting them manually, then import. It worked very well. When I tried to import and write over, I did not get the results I wanted.

I suggest to users to organize, renumber, spell check and sort this is the way to go.

Thanks Again for your help!

Howie
